Jason IsringhausenIsringhausen, twice demoted from the closer role this season, is likely out for the rest of the season with an elbow injury. The 35-year-old Isringhausen had an MRI on Tuesday. He left Busch Stadium after consulting with team medical personnel and before the Cardinals' 4-1 loss to the Pirates. He'll be placed on the disabled list for the second time on Wednesday, and general manager John Mozeliak doesn't expect the right-hander back this year.

Luke HochevarHochevar left his start against the Cleveland Indians with tightness in his ribcage while warming up for the sixth inning Tuesday night. The right-hander had allowed seven hits over five innings and the Royals were trailing 4-3 when he went to the mound to warm up. Hochevar threw a couple of pitches and assistant trainer Frank Kyte went to the mound to check on the 24-year-old. A moment later, they walked to the dugout.

Delmon YoungYoung sat out Tuesday's game with an injured ankle. Young injured his ankle while chasing down a double by Oakland's Jack Cust in the fourth inning on Monday night. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Young could be available in an emergency situation but he would prefer to give him the day off and see how he feels Wednesday. Jason Kubel started in Young's place in left field.

Brett TomkoThe Padres activated Tomko from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday. Tomko takes the roster spot left by right-hander Greg Maddux, who was traded Tuesday to the Los Angeles Dodgers for two players to be named or cash. Tomko appeared in just two games for San Diego since he was signed as a free agent June 27, allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work. He was placed on the disabled list on July 8 with a strained right elbow. Tomko started the season with the Kansas City Royals, where he was 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA in 16 games and 10 starts before he was released June 21.

Adam EverettEverett did not start Tuesday's game after he was hit on the right hand by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Nick Punto on Monday. X-rays showed that it was just a deep bruise and there were no broken bones, but manager Ron Gardenhire said Everett will be out for at least the next two games. Brendan Harris started at shortstop.

Ian KinslerKinsler might be able to avoid season-ending surgery for a sports hernia after receiving encouraging news from a specialist Tuesday. Kinsler was examined by Dr. John Preskitt at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Kinsler said the doctor told him there was probably no torn muscle in the left side of his groin area. Kinsler was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday and will be examined again in a week. If he shows progress, there's a chance he could return to the lineup at the end of his DL stint.

Reyes started Tuesday night against the New York Mets, hoping to end a career-worst five-game losing streak. He was 3-9 with a 5.33 ERA for Atlanta before being optioned July 28 to Richmond, where he had a 3.94 ERA in three starts without a decision.

Beckett was scheduled to pitch Saturday against Toronto. Instead, he's tentatively set to start Tuesday night when the Red Sox play New York at Yankee Stadium. Beckett will undergo tests to determine the cause of the numbness -- and to rule out a serious condition such as a blood clots.

The 42-year-old Maddux first came to the Dodgers late in the 2006 season, when he went 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts to help them win a wild-card berth. This time, Los Angeles is dueling Arizona for the NL West lead.

Belisle competed for the final spot in the rotation during spring training, but developed a sore forearm that sidelined him until mid-April.
